It’s that time of year again! This season make sure you field dress your trophies properly. If your unable to make it to your local taxidermist right away; freezing them will be your best option.

With all birds waterfowl/upland; tuck the head in a wing and place in plastic bag, make sure to get all the air out for proper freezing. Smaller mammals follow same procedures, tuck face and place bag; get as much air out as possible before freezing.

All fish make sure the fins are laid flat close to the body, you can use a damp cloth to wrap them and place in plastic bag, than freeze.

Minnesota is known for unpredictable weather. If you find yourself getting that amazing trophy buck make sure you take extra care getting it back to camp. Never drag or place a rope around the neck of your deer; that can lead to bruising and hide slippage. Carefully hang your deer by hind legs and skin up to the neck where you can cut, let cool before rolling and placing in an airless bag for freezing. Illustration below to help. There are many resources to help online, or call your local taxidermist with any questions.
